Five people were injured in a multiple vehicle accident on Friday, April 10th on the 1600 block of West Palmetto Park Road, according to a report published by the Palm Beach Post. The accident occurred at around 7:15 pm and involved three vehicles. A spokesperson for the Boca Raton Police indicated that five people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

Accidents involving multiple vehicles can raise significant legal issues

Multiple car accidents are often much more complicated from a legal perspective than those involving only two vehicles. In a two vehicle accident, the events that led up to the collision are often relatively straightforward and fault is often non-contested. For example, if a drunk driver weaves into another lane a strikes another car, the only issue that needs to be determined is how much in damages the intoxicated driver owes the victim.

Multiple car accidents, on the other hand, are rarely as straightforward. Generally speaking, a negligent party is liable for all of the losses that resulted from his or her negligent conduct. For instance, a person who started a chain of rear-end collisions in heavy traffic could possibly be held liable for all of the damages that occurred. In many multi-vehicle accidents, however, many different parties may be partially at fault for an accident. In these cases, Florida law allows fault to be apportioned among them and they are liable to the extent of their percentage of fault.

An attorney can help victims protect their legal rights

After a multiple vehicle accident, the people who were involved in the accident will likely be contacted by several insurance companies that all have the goal of minimizing their liability to the people involved in the accident. Insurance companies are in the business of making money and are not looking out for your best interests, no matter how friendly their representative seems. In many cases, an insurance company representative will try and take advantage of an unrepresented party by trying to get him or her to make statements admitting liability or by making an unreasonably low settlement offer in hopes that he or she will accept it and give up their right to sue. By retaining an experienced attorney, people who have been involved in a multi-vehicle accident can be sure that their legal rights are protected and that they receive the full and fair value of any legal claim they may have a right to assert.
